Thomas L. Schmid, Ph.D.

Dr.  Schmid is Team Lead for the Research and Development Team (R&D) , Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The R&D team conducts and evaluates research, on effective strategies to promote physical activity and quality of life. The WHO Collaborating Center on Physical Activity and Health is housed in the R&D team. The WHO-CC’s mission is to understand and promote physical activity to prevent disease and enhance health and quality of life. Dr. Schmid is the CDC technical advisor to PAPRN, a consortium of university-based policy researchers; he is also the lead researcher for GOL and GUIA, research studies in Latin America exploring influences of the built environment on physical activity physical and on an exercise prescription project in Jordan.
