New Name – Same Great Conference!

After much reflection and input from past and current program committee members, we are excited to announce that we have made a small tweak to our conference name. The Active Living Research Conference was created in 2004 to convene grantees funded by ALR to share study methods and results. Over the past 15 years, the conference has grown and evolved to become a venue for both cutting-edge research and for making findings useable by non-scientists.

The conference now brings together a diverse audience of over 300 delegates and provides a rare opportunity for active living researchers and practitioners from many fields to come together to exchange information and advance the discussion about how to create healthier communities for all people. In 2013 we added a “Practice/Policy” submission category to the Call for Abstracts to ensure that the program includes presentations and lessons learned from grassroots organizations and advocates that are implementing evidence-based active living policies and strategies in communities across the globe.

To further emphasize that the conference is designed to break down silos and provide a space to exchange ideas across sectors, we have removed the word “research” from the conference name and added a tagline that helps describe the event:

Active Living Conference

The premier multi-disciplinary conference for sharing the latest research, policies, and practices that advance activity-friendly communities for everyone

Although this is a minor change, we believe it is an essential one that reflects the importance of collaboration between researchers, practitioners and policy advocates and helps to encourage the participation of all active living champions.

If you would like a chance to present your work at the 2019 Active Living Conference, please submit an abstract by August 31, 2018. For more details and submission guidelines visit the Call for abstracts page.

We look forward to seeing you February 17-20, 2019 in Charleston, South Carolina, USA at the Active Living Conference.

“Our biggest challenge is that so many sectors of society that are outside of the health field impact physical activity. This drives the range of disciplines we have partnered with. It drives the number of government agencies, professional organizations, and advocacy groups that are relevant to our work. It is a much bigger universe than people in other fields have to deal with—and that keeps stretching us.”
